How to Live Holy Week
In general, we want to live even more recollected lives during Holy Week than we have lived during the previous weeks of Lent. We should devote more time to prayer, penance, and the doing of good for others. We should minimize the time we spend on entertainments, mortify ourselves in our food and drink, reflect upon Our Lord’s Passion and death. Good Friday is a day of fast and abstinence for those who are obliged. If at all possible, participate in the Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Vigil liturgies.
Good Friday
Good Friday is a fast day for all of those who have completed their 18th birthday up to the completion of their 59th birthday. All who have completed their 14th birthday are obliged to abstain from meat (chicken is considered meat). Those who are able are encouraged to continue their fast and abstinence on Holy Saturday as well.
Vacation Bible School
Please reserve the dates of Monday, July 9 - Saturday, July 14 for the SPC Summer Vacation Bible School. The 6 day VBS is open to children in grades 1-6 and the theme this year will be the Seven Sacraments and the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary. Registration will soon be available. Volunteers will be needed to assist with the VBS. A meeting for the volunteers will be announced in the near future.
"Option Line"
"Option Line" offers a nationwide toll-free hotline and a website, connecting people in need with the pregnancy resource center closest to their home. Option Line consultants refer each caller to a pregnancy resource center in her area for answers to questions about abortion, pregnancy tests, STD’s, adoption, parenting, medical referrals, housing , and many other issues. The toll-free number is available to callers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The number is 1-800-395-HELP and the website is www.OptionLine.org
Churches to be aware of…
We recently included a bulletin insert on churches in the area that some people mistakenly think are in union with the Catholic Church. Another such church that has come to our attention is Our Lady, Help of Christians in Garden Grove. It does not function with the approval of the local bishop. Catholics should beware.
Reject Physician Assisted Suicide Bill AB 374—No real safeguards
Please contact Assemblyman Tony Mendoza and urge him to reject physician-assisted suicide; it cannot be controlled, victimizes the vulnerable, and causes doctors to help kill patients. Write, phone, fax or e-mail: Assemblyman Tony Mendoza

We will leave SPC at 3:00 p.m. to attend the celebration, returning by about 10:00 p.m. Cost, to help defray the price of our motor coaches, will be $10 per adult, $5 per child under 18 years, and no more than $25 per family. Please register ASAP in the parish office during the week.
